One thing common amongst amateur spiritual seekers is that they like to philosophize about their new found wisdom. Whether it is the new book they have read or the spiritual event that they have attended, they are always tempted to share their experience with rest of the world.
Even before they have put the wisdom into practice in their life, they start persuading others around them to follow it. So they can have a company in their personal spiritual journey. This tendency is very common amongst Beginners, who do this to comfort themselves.
Spirituality is a very complex and commonly misunderstood subject. Many still believe that it’s an escape route for weak people who can’t handle the stress of life. Many laugh at it as if it is a dumb thing to practice Spirituality. Also Spirituality is actually a threat to religion as it eliminates the need to follow Concepts, which Religion is all about.
In such a scenario if someone has to walk the road of spirituality, the person feels doubtful of his endeavor. It always feels good when you have someone to walk along with you, even if it’s the journey you are meant to pursue alone. It gives that much needed emotional comfort. It gives a confirmation that you are not being stupid. If others are doing the same thing then there is a good chance that what you are doing is right and no one will laugh at you.
But in doing so, these amateur seekers actually taint the essence of Spirituality. It has become a joke because people who talk about it are the ones who know the least about it. An experienced seeker would wisely choose to hold his tongue over this subject.
True Spiritualists are those who never mention the subject in their day-to-day conversations, who refrain from preaching any thing of value to others, who don’t crave to do a good deed, who do not follow any concepts whatsoever. They don’t do anything, literally. They just stop Being and experience life as it happens to them.
As for the rest, they make it their mission to change the world. They try to change the world before they can change themselves. They would ask others to read a book, pay a visit to their favorite guru, practice a spiritual ritual and so on. Their suggestions are endless and they don’t bother if you are interested in their suggestions or not. They simply want to speak so they can assure themselves that they have known much about the subject.
Philosophizing gives them the confidence to continue with something that is not working for them. And that’s a hard fact. If you see a person who is arguing over his spiritual belief, you can be assured, spirituality didn’t work for him. Because if it had, he wouldn’t have made an effort to convince another being about the value of spirituality.
There are others who like to show-off their spiritual knowledge. These are the most unfortunate people of all amateur seekers, for they have been duped twice. The Ego which by default cheats us, plays a double game with these people. It disguises itself has a spiritual genius who has got it all, who has mastered the knowledge. Lack of knowledge seems like a personal lacking that they can’t bear. They derive pleasure by sharing their years of accumulated knowledge with rest of the world. At the outset, it definitely appears as if it’s a noble deed, however it is just another source of ego-gratification.
Spirituality has nothing to do with these gathered Concepts. Spirituality is an understanding that happens in the absence of all concepts.
Spirituality can have only one effect on you. It will make you a quieter person. Your mind will stop making noise, stop embarking on Concepts. It will come to Rest, and be in that state for the Rest of your life!
Less Noise, More Peace!
